Builder’s Labourer
Also known as: Trade Assistant, Construction Worker.
Builder’s Labourers assist tradespeople on building and construction sites by doing a range of manual labouring jobs. Employment as a Labourer may be casual or full-time.

To be a Labourer you need to enjoy outdoor, practical work and be physically fit. You also need to be able to work as part of a team and be able to follow precise directions. Labourers are able to work at a constant pace.
Typical Duties
- unload, carry and stack building materials and place tools and equipment in position,
- dig trenches using hand tools or jackhammers to break up rock and concrete so that footings and services can be placed,
- mix, pour and spread concrete,
- help to erect and dismantle scaffolding (subject to certification in some states and territories), ramps, catwalks, barricades and warning lights,
- use wheelbarrows to remove rubble and rubbish from building sites,
- dismantle small structures and strip materials in preparation for new constructions, and
- clean surfaces for painters.
No RTOs in the ACT offer training to become a Builders Labourer.
All construction workers need a White Card and Asbestos Awareness Training to work on a construction site in the ACT.
