Boom-Type Elevating Work Platform Operator
Boom length 11 meters or more
A boom-type elevating work platform operator requires a special licence. This type of work involves using a telescoping, hinged, or articulated device or any combination of these, to support a platform so that people, equipment and materials may be elevated to perform work.
To be a Boom-Type Elevating Work Platform Operator you need to enjoy outdoor, practical work and be physically fit. You also need to be able to work at heights, and have a good sense of balance.

Typical Duties
- plan your work and conduct routine checks,
- set up and operate an elevating work platform, and
- shut down and secure an elevating work platform.
All construction workers need a White Card and Asbestos Awareness Training to work on a construction site in the ACT.
Check with your RTO to see if you are eligible for an ACT Training Fund Authority Subsidy. This will reduce the cost of your training. Training will also vary from RTO to RTO.

Notes:
An 11-metre boom length means greater than the following measurements:
(a) the vertical distance from the floor of the platform to the surface supporting the elevating work platform, with the platform at its maximum height; or
(b) the horizontal reach from the centre point of rotation to the outer edge of the platform in its most extended position.
