Glazier
Also known as: Flat Glass Tradesperson, Furniture/Millworking, Glass Beveller, Glass Cutter; Glass Embosser, Glass Silverer, Leadlight Worker.
Glass and glazing tradespeople cut, shape and install glass used in windows, including shopfronts, doors, walls, mirrors, display cabinets and furniture. They can also do decorative work such as stained glass and feature mirrors.
Glaziers travel to building sites and homes in the course of their work. Those who work in the emergency glass repair field are required to work irregular hours and at weekends. They have a high level of contact with the public, builders and other tradespeople.

To be a Glazier you need to enjoy practical, precise work and have steady hands. You also need to be able to work at heights and calculate and measure accurately. Glaziers work as part of a team.
Typical Duties
- interpret drawings and plans or measure the space to work out the amount of glass needed,
- lay sheets of glass onto glass cutting tables and score (mark) the surface of the glass using a variety of glasscutters,
- cut, drill and notch holes in glass with diamond-tipped cutters and drills, and remove excess glass,
- remove broken glass and mirrors and prepare surfaces for re-glazing,
- make decorative edges on glass and mirrors, and smooth and polish edges on a grinding or bevelling wheel,
- fit glass using putty, chemical compounds or rubber strips onto timber, steel and aluminium frames,
- assemble and secure parts of pre-made glass units (e.g. shop fittings, display cases and shower enclosures),
- install metal window and door frames into which glass panels are fitted, (e.g. for shower screens and sliding doors), and
- fabricate aluminium for domestic and commercial applications, and fit and install on site.
All construction workers need a White Card and Asbestos Awareness Training to work on a construction site in the ACT.
